Ingredients

Casserole Base
  • 32 oz frozen tater tots do not thaw
  • 3 cups cooked chicken shredded or cubed
  • 3 cups cheddar cheese shredded, divided use
Sauce and Seasoning
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) condensed cream of chicken soup
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 0.5 cup milk
  • 1 packet (1 oz) dry ranch seasoning mix
  • 0.5 tsp black pepper
Garnish
  • 2 tbsp fresh chives or green onions chopped
  • Bottled ranch dressing for drizzling (optional)

Equipment

  • 9x13 Baking Dish
  • Large Mixing Bowl
  • Whisk
  • Spatula

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish with cooking spray.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the cream of chicken soup, sour cream, milk, dry ranch seasoning packet, and black pepper until smooth.
  3. Stir the cooked chicken and 1.5 cups of the shredded cheddar cheese into the soup mixture.
  4. Pour the chicken mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread into an even layer.
  5. Top the chicken mixture evenly with the frozen tater tots.
  6. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until tots are starting to brown and filling is bubbly.
  7. Remove from oven and sprinkle the remaining 1.5 cups of cheddar cheese over the tots.
  8. Bake for another 10-15 minutes until the cheese is fully melted and bubbly, and tots are golden and crispy.
  9. Let rest for 5-10 minutes before serving. Garnish with chopped chives and a drizzle of bottled ranch dressing if desired.

Notes

For extra crispy tots, ensure the oven is fully preheated to 400°F and try not to overlap the tots too much.
