- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish with cooking spray.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the cream of chicken soup, sour cream, milk, dry ranch seasoning packet, and black pepper until smooth.
- Stir the cooked chicken and 1.5 cups of the shredded cheddar cheese into the soup mixture.
- Pour the chicken mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread into an even layer.
- Top the chicken mixture evenly with the frozen tater tots.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until tots are starting to brown and filling is bubbly.
- Remove from oven and sprinkle the remaining 1.5 cups of cheddar cheese over the tots.
- Bake for another 10-15 minutes until the cheese is fully melted and bubbly, and tots are golden and crispy.
- Let rest for 5-10 minutes before serving. Garnish with chopped chives and a drizzle of bottled ranch dressing if desired.
Notes
For extra crispy tots, ensure the oven is fully preheated to 400°F and try not to overlap the tots too much.
