Ingredients

Dough & Pretzel Bath
  • 1 can refrigerated pizza dough 13.8 oz
  • 4 cups water for boiling
  • 0.25 cup baking soda for pretzel bath
  • 1 large egg beaten, for egg wash
  • 1 tbsp coarse sea salt for topping
Cheeseburger Filling
  • 0.5 lb ground beef 80/20 preferred
  • 0.5 cup white onion finely diced
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 0.5 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese shredded

Equipment

  • Large Skillet
  • Large pot for boiling
  • Baking sheet
  • Slotted spoon
  • Pastry brush

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef and onions. Drain excess grease. Stir in garlic powder, salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce. Let cool slightly, then mix in the shredded cheese.
  3. Unroll the pizza dough and cut it into 8 equal squares or rectangles.
  4. Place a spoonful of the beef and cheese mixture into the center of each dough square. Pull the edges up and pinch tightly to seal completely into a ball.
  5. Bring the water to a rolling boil in a large pot. Carefully stir in the baking soda. Drop the dough balls in 2-3 at a time and boil for 30 seconds. Remove with a slotted spoon to the prepared baking sheet.
  6. Brush the boiled pretzel bombs with the beaten egg and sprinkle generously with coarse sea salt.
  7. Bake for 12-15 minutes until dark golden brown. Let cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

Ensure the dough is sealed completely tight around the filling to prevent the cheese from leaking out during the boiling or baking process.
