Method
- Preheat your waffle iron to a medium-high setting and lightly grease with butter or non-stick spray.
- In a shallow bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until well combined.
- Dip each slice of bread into the egg mixture, soaking for about 15 seconds per side.
- Place the soaked bread onto the preheated waffle iron and close the lid gently.
- Cook for 3-5 minutes until the exterior is golden brown and crispy.
- Remove carefully and repeat with remaining slices.
- Serve hot with a pat of butter and plenty of maple syrup.
Notes
Using stale or slightly dried-out bread prevents the waffles from becoming too soft in the middle.
