Ingredients

The Apples
  • 8 medium Granny Smith apples washed and dried thoroughly
  • 8 sturdy wooden sticks
The Candy Coating
  • 3 cups granulated sugar
  • 0.5 cup light corn syrup
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tsp white gel food coloring bright white
  • 0.5 tsp pink gel food coloring
  • 0.5 tsp orange gel food coloring
  • 1 pinch edible gold glitter

Equipment

  • Candy Thermometer
  • Heavy Bottom Saucepan
  • Wooden Skewers
  • Silicone Baking Mat

Method

  1. Clean apples by dipping in boiling water for 10 seconds, then scrubbing dry to remove wax.
  2. Remove stems and insert wooden sticks firmly into the top of each apple. Place on a silicone mat.
  3. In a saucepan, combine sugar, water, and corn syrup. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat.
  4. Cook without stirring until the mixture reaches 300°F (Hard Crack Stage).
  5. Remove from heat immediately. Let bubbles subside for 1-2 minutes until smooth.
  6. Stir in white food coloring carefully. Then, drop in pink and orange coloring and glitter. Swirl gently with a stick (do not overmix).
  7. Dip apples one by one, tilting the pot to coat, and lifting straight up to let excess drip.
  8. Place on the silicone mat to cool and harden completely (about 10 minutes).

Notes

Work quickly once the sugar is off the heat as it hardens fast. Do not refrigerate the finished apples.
