Method
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Unroll pie crust into a 9-inch deep-dish pie plate, crimp edges. Blind bake with pie weights for 8 minutes. Remove weights and lower oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large skillet over medium-high heat, brown ground beef, Italian sausage, and onion until meat is cooked through (about 8 mins). Add garlic in the last minute.
- Drain all excess grease from the skillet. Return to low heat and stir in pizza sauce, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 2 minutes, then remove from heat.
- Sprinkle 1/4 cup of mozzarella cheese over the bottom of the pre-baked crust.
- Spread the meat and sauce mixture evenly into the crust.
- Top with the remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese. Arrange pepperoni slices on top and sprinkle with dried oregano.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes until the crust is golden, cheese is bubbly, and pepperoni is crispy.
- Let the pie rest for 10-15 minutes before slicing and serving hot.
Notes
To prevent a soggy bottom crust, do not skip the blind baking step or the draining of the meat grease.
