- Remove the Hawaiian rolls from the package. You can leave them whole or separate them. If desired, slice slightly to expose more interior, but whole cubes work best.
- In a shallow bowl or pie dish, whisk together eggs, milk, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until well combined.
- Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat and melt the butter.
- Quickly dip each roll into the egg mixture, coating all sides. Do not soak for more than 2-3 seconds to prevent sogginess.
- Place rolls in the hot skillet. Cook for 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy. Ensure you rotate to cook the sides as well.
- Remove from pan, plate immediately, and dust generously with powdered sugar. Serve warm with maple syrup.
Notes
Use stale rolls for best results as they absorb more custard without breaking apart.
