Ingredients

Burger Components
  • 1 lb ground beef 80/20 chuck preferred
  • 4 waffles homemade or thick frozen
  • 6-8 slices thick-cut bacon
  • 4 slices cheddar cheese or american cheese
  • 0.25 cup pure maple syrup for drizzling
Seasonings
  • 1 tsp kosher salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 0.5 tsp garlic powder optional
  • 1 tbsp butter for toasting waffles if not using toaster

Equipment

  • Cast Iron Skillet
  • Waffle maker or toaster
  • Spatula

Method

  1. Cook the bacon in a skillet until crispy. Transfer to a paper towel, reserving 1 tablespoon of bacon grease in the pan.
  2. Divide the ground beef into 4 equal portions and form into patties slightly wider than your waffles. Create a shallow dimple in the center of each.
  3. Heat the skillet with the reserved bacon grease over medium-high heat. Season patties with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
  4. Sear the patties for 3-4 minutes on the first side to develop a crust. Flip the burgers.
  5. Immediately place a slice of cheese on each patty. Cook for another 3-4 minutes until the meat is cooked through and the cheese is melted.
  6. While the burgers cook, toast your waffles until they are crispy and deep golden brown.
  7. Assemble the burger: Place one waffle down, top with two cheesy beef patties, layer with crispy bacon, and generously drizzle with maple syrup.
  8. Top with the second waffle and serve immediately while hot and sticky.

Notes

Use real, pure maple syrup for the best flavor contrast against the salty bacon and savory beef. Artificial syrup will make the dish overly sweet.
