Ingredients

The 'Buns'
  • 1 bag frozen tater tots approx 40 tots
The Burgers
  • 1 lb ground beef 80/20 lean to fat
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 0.5 tsp black pepper
  • 5 slices American cheese cut into quarters
Toppings
  • 1 small white onion cut into small squares
  • 10 slices dill pickles cut into quarters

Equipment

  • Baking sheet
  • Large Skillet or Griddle
  • Spatula
  • Knife

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Arrange tater tots on a baking sheet.
  2. Bake tots for 20-25 minutes until deep golden brown and extra crispy. Let cool slightly.
  3. While tots bake, season ground beef with salt and pepper. Form into small balls (about 1 inch).
  4. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Place beef balls in pan and smash flat with a spatula.
  5. Cook patties for 2 minutes, then flip. Top each with a small square of cheese.
  6. Cook for 1-2 more minutes until cheese is melted and beef is cooked through.
  7. To assemble: Place one tater tot down, top with onion, burger patty, pickle, and a second tater tot.
  8. Serve immediately while warm and crispy.

Notes

Make sure to cook the tots longer than the package directions so they are sturdy enough to hold the burger.
