Ingredients

The Drink Base
  • 1 cup pineapple juice chilled
  • 1 cup orange juice pulp-free works best
  • 0.5 oz lime juice freshly squeezed
  • 2 cups ice cubes more if a thicker slush is desired
  • 1 tbsp coconut cream optional, for creamy texture
The Sunrise Layer
  • 2 tbsp grenadine syrup
Garnish
  • 2 wedges fresh pineapple
  • 2 maraschino cherries

Equipment

  • Blender
  • Tall Glasses (Hurricane or Highball)
  • Knife
  • Cutting Board

Method

  1. Place your serving glasses in the freezer for 10 minutes to chill.
  2. In a blender, combine pineapple juice, orange juice, lime juice, coconut cream (if using), and ice.
  3. Blend on high until the mixture is smooth and slushy. Add more ice if necessary to reach desired thickness.
  4. Remove glasses from freezer and pour 1 tablespoon of grenadine into the bottom of each glass.
  5. Slowly pour the frozen juice mixture over the grenadine. Pour gently to maintain the red layer at the bottom.
  6. Garnish with a pineapple wedge and a cherry on a toothpick. Serve immediately with a straw.

Notes

For a carbonated version, fill the glass halfway with the slush mix and top with lemon-lime soda.
