Ingredients
  

Cupcake Base
  • 1 box white or yellow cake mix 15.25 oz, plus ingredients required on box
  • 24 white or striped paper cupcake liners
Frosting and Decoration
  • 3 cups vanilla buttercream frosting stiff consistency
  • 0.5 cup pink sanding sugar coarse
  • 0.5 cup blue sanding sugar coarse
  • 0.5 cup yellow sanding sugar coarse
  • 24 miniature plastic tasting spoons optional

  • Mixing bowls
  • Cookie scoop
  • Small bowls for sugar

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven and prepare cake batter according to the box directions. Line a muffin tin with paper liners.
  2. Fill liners 2/3 full and bake according to package directions. Let cool completely on a wire rack.
  3. Pour the pink, blue, and yellow sanding sugars into three separate small bowls.
  4. Using a cookie scoop, place a mound of frosting on each cooled cupcake. Smooth it into a perfect half-sphere dome.
  5. Sprinkle the pink, yellow, and blue sanding sugars in sections over the frosting dome until completely covered.
  6. Insert a miniature plastic spoon into the top of each cupcake. Serve and enjoy!

Notes

Do not store in an airtight container or the sugar will melt. Store in a cardboard bakery box at room temperature.
